RNP operations in Canada, New Zealand, Australia, China and the United States are well-established, with well-defined precedents for operations approval and procedure design. Outside of the above countries, operators may face longer implementation timelines while their regulators become familiar with RNP. The ICAO (International Civil Aviation Organization) and the U.S. FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) are working to synchronize RNP terminology and publish operator approval guidelines and procedure design standards for use worldwide. ICAO is in the final stages of preparation of two manuals related to RNP: the ICAO PBN (Performance Based Navigation) Manual and the ICAO RNP AR Manual. The PBN document outlines the requirements operators must meet in order to be approved to conduct RNP operations. The RNP AR Manual sets out design criteria for Public RNP procedures. The FAA's RNP operator approval and RNP design criteria documents are Advisory Circular (AC) 90-101 and Order 8260.52, respectively. They differ in some details from the ICAO work.
