Panama and Seattle, September 4/PRNewswire - FirstCall/ - Copa Airlines (NYSE: CPA). Copa Airlines of Panama has engaged Naverus to perform an RNP Readiness Assessment. RNP (Required Navigation Performance) brings together the accuracy of GPS (Global Positioning System), the capabilities of advanced aircraft avionics, and new flight procedures to achieve safer, more efficient, and more environmentally friendly flight operations. Airlines can realize millions of dollars in fuel savings by utilizing carefully engineered RNP flight paths.
Members of Naverus Professional Services Team began the project August 2 at Copa´s headquarters in Panama City. The Readiness Assessment will include evaluating RNP financial benefits, reviewing compliance with RNP regulatory requirements, evaluating operational and safety benefits at Tocumen International Airport/PTY and Howard International Airport/HOW, and accessing the current RNP Project and Operational Approval process – including surveying flight crews.
“Naverus Readiness Assessments are an easy way for airlines to learn what RNP has to offer, and how much they can specifically benefit from it,” said David Hathaway, Naverus Vice President of Professional Services. Since its initial success at terrain-challenged airports, the repeatability and precision of RNP is being relied upon at all types of airports to reduce fuel burn, improve operations, and benefit the environment. “Copa’s utilization of RNP reflects the airline’s strong position as a vanguard of aviation technology in terms of safety, fuel efficiency and environmental concerns,” said Larry Ganse, Senior Vice President of Operations and COO of Copa Airlines.
